Reducing HVAC waste outside working hours
Renergia identified unusually high electricity consumption outside working hours at a commercial banking branch and traced the main source to the building’s HVAC system — then automated its schedule to cut the waste without affecting comfort.
Context
The case study covers an anonymized commercial banking branch with no on-site photovoltaic production, so imported energy equals total measured consumption. The targeted category was HVAC, used for cold-season heating.
Renergia compared the technical reference consumption from 01–24 February with the available post-automation window from 25–27 February, using hourly electricity consumption and outdoor temperature from a real monitored site. Because only three days of data were available after implementation, the seasonal results are estimates rather than confirmed long-term savings.

What Renergia found
Renergia automatically detected an abnormal increase in both total building consumption and HVAC-related consumption, especially overnight — when the building should operate close to its minimum technical load.
Using its AI-based disaggregation algorithm, Renergia separated the HVAC component from total building consumption and identified HVAC as the main contributor to the abnormal pattern.
How the issue was identified
The platform combined AI-based consumption profiling, hourly behaviour analysis, and an expected technical reference consumption adjusted for outdoor temperature — separating unnecessary HVAC operation from consumption caused by colder weather.
What we did
Renergia recommended controlling the HVAC system directly through the platform. The automation was implemented on 25 February 2026 and focused on reducing unnecessary overnight operation.
The schedule preserved important comfort periods:
07:00–08:00
Morning preparation before the branch opened
17:00–19:00
A transition period after normal office hours
These comfort periods were not counted as direct savings.
Before vs. after
The HVAC system continued using substantial energy during nights and other non-working periods.
Total daily electricity consumption decreased once the HVAC schedule was automated.

Under similar building and weather conditions, the automated schedule points to a clear seasonal savings opportunity.

Why it matters
Renergia transformed an abnormal energy pattern into a clear operational action. Instead of only showing that consumption was high, the platform identified HVAC as the main source, highlighted when the waste occurred, and recommended a schedule to reduce it.
The result is a clear seasonal savings opportunity that can be verified through continued monitoring — without affecting normal branch operations.
